Our Story
I’m Kathy Mellin Grubbs. I own Quirky Quilt Shop and I specialize in top quality, beautiful fabric & edge to edge quilting on a state of the art Innova quilting machine.
I offer hundreds of quilting patterns that have computerized stitch regulation to give your art work a beautiful finish.
I started my quilting career by making a memorial t-shirt quilt for a funeral, and a king size quilt for my brother who was a cancer patient and talented performer. All that work was done on a small 1960’s straight stitch machine from the local thrift store. 😆 Then my brother moved into my home for hospice care, and COVID hit. Quilting became my obsession and my sanity during lockdown. I purchased an inexpensive sewing machine with a wide throat so I could learn to free-motion-quilt, but I was still frustrated with the limitations of my sewing machine. After a year of research, I knew I wanted the excellence that only an Innova machine could offer.
It’s an honor to be a silent partner in the making of a quilt. Who’s happier when someone gets a quilt: the person who made it, or the person receiving it? Hard to say, but it surely keeps me inspired and motivated! Let’s make your quilt, your way!

My Computerized Innova quilting machine can accommodate all styles and sizes of quilting projects! No other machine offers such precision and regular stitching. I can even quilt heavy and textured fabric with ease.
I offer a beautiful range of quilting threads, quilting patterns, and the highest possible quality batting. Specialty battings such as wool, bamboo&silk blend, recycled polyester, and fire resistant batting are also offered. This sets me apart from most quilting services and gives you an heir quality finish to your quilt.

I recommend using only quality fabric from Quirky Quilt Shop or my fellow independent shops for your quilt top and back. It can make all the difference in how your quilt comes out. The better the fabric, the better the quilting will be. Just sayin’.
